The Youngstown State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased to announce the Ralph and Phyllis DeMain Memorial Scholarship to enhance the YSU Athletics Scholarship Endowment Fund.
This scholarship was recently established by their family – Greg, Skip, Brian and Georgene.
Ralph and Phyllis were both born and raised in Youngstown and graduated from YSU in 1962. They have always been loyal followers of all things Youngstown, especially Penguins Athletics. On behalf of the family we would like to offer this Memorial Scholarship in their memory.
“Our family is extremely excited to start a scholarship fund at Youngstown State University in the name of our parents Ralph and Phyllis DeMain. Both were born and raised in Youngstown and graduated from YSU. Even though they lived in California for more than 40 years their love for all things “Youngstown” never diminished. They were both avid sports fans who endearingly followed Penguins athletics, especially football. We could think of no better way to honor them in their hometown and at their alma mater than to start a scholarship endowment in their names at YSU.”
The annual scholarship endowment will be awarded to a male or female student-athlete.
Paul McFadden, President of the YSU Foundation, said that the DeMain family’s contribution comes at a very important time for the University.
“We are very thankful to the DeMain family for endowing an Athletics scholarship,” McFadden said. “Their generosity at a time like this is something we greatly appreciate. The amount of great people who care about Youngstown State University, and YSU athletics, is truly what makes this place special.”
