Kendrick Blasts Two Home Runs as YSU Beats NKU 8-7

Andrew Kendrick hit a pair of home runs, and the Youngstown State baseball team held off Northern Kentucky for an 8-7 victory that evened a three-game series at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.

The Penguins have now won four of their last five contests and handed the Norse their first Horizon League loss.

Kendrick hit a solo homer in the second inning, and he hit a three-run blast in the third to up his weekend total to three and his season total to 11. The school record for homers in a season is 12.

Youngstown State built an 8-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before NKU scored the game's final five runs. The Norse hit three home runs over the last four innings, and the teams combined for six homers in the game.

Gino DiVincenzo allowed two runs in four innings in his first career start for the Penguins, and those two runs came on a home run in the second inning. Javier Alvarez pitched a shutout fifth to be awarded the win, and Joe King pitched a perfect ninth to earn his third save.

Youngstown State will try to win the series on Sunday in the finale, which starts at noon.
