Zaire Jones Named to MVFC All-Newcomer Team

Youngstown State junior defensive back Zaire Jones was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference's All-Newcomer Team, the league announced on Tuesday.

Jones, a transfer from Vanderbilt, played in all 12 games and made 11 starts in his first year in a Penguins uniform.

He had a team-high three interceptions and returned a pick 30 yards for a touchdown against Illinois State in the season finale.

Jones finished the year with 60 total tackles, 35 of which were solo stops.

Finished the season with 60 total tackles (35 solos) and led the team with three interceptions…in MVFC games, had 41 total tackles…returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown against Illinois State…had two interceptions against Samford…registered a season-high nine tackles at Southern Illinois…had a forced fumble and two pass breakups.
