Youngstown -- Senior Samantha Snodgrass' bases-loaded fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth inning scored sophomore Miranda Castiglione and lifted the Youngstown State softball team to a 3-2 Senior Day come-from-behind win over Wright State on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Softball Field.

The Penguins improve to 22-19 overall and 7-6 in the Horizon League while the Raiders fall to 13-27 and 8-6 in the league. Heach Coach Brian Campbell also picked up career win No. 399.

Castiglione led off the bottom of the eighth with a walk and singles by senior Sarah Ingalls and sophomore Katie Smallcomb loaded the bases for Snodgrass, who hit a chopper to first base but Castiglione beat the throw home.

Snodgrass made the defensive play of the game in the top half of the eighth. With runners on second and third with one out, the Raiders' Taylor Knore squeeze bunt down the third base line was fielded by Snodgrass, who flipped the ball from her glove to catcher Maria Lacatena for the out.

Senior Casey Crozier, who picked up her 13th win, induced an infield pop up to retired the side. Crozier struck out seven and did not allow a walk and notched her 15th complete game of the season. After allowing four hits through the first four innings, Crozier allowed two hits the rest of the game.

Smallcomb, who went 2-for-4, tied the game at 2-2 with a bases-loaded single to right field that scored junior Kayla Haslett, who singled, with the game-tying run. Castiglione, who also singled, tried to score from second but was thrown out at the plate.

Haslett led off the frame with a pinch-hit single to center and moved to second on Castiglione's second hit of the game. Ingalls hit a chopper back to Wright State starter Krystian DeWitt, but DeWitt's throw to third pulled Reagan Stofcheck off the bag and loaded the bases for Smallcomb.

The Raiders took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a Becka Peterson double and a Kortney Tacket fielder's choice.

The Penguins cut the Raiders' lead in half in the bottom of the third on a Castiglione two-out infield single. Lacatena walked and moved to second on Courtney Ewing's single to right field. After a ground out moved the runners to second and third, Castiglione hit a slow roller to third and beat the throw at first.

The Penguins host Dayton in a doubleheader, Monday, April 21, at 1 p.m. at the YSU Softball Field.
