Incoming freshman Kirsten Moore (Tallmadge, Ohio) of the Youngstown State bowling team gives YSUsports.com an update in this Q&A session.
Why did you get into bowling?
I got into bowling because of my dad. He’s bowled since a young age, and when I was around 4 he introduced me to the sport. I’ve been bowling ever since in leagues and tournaments.
What do you enjoy most about the sport?
For me, it’s hard to pick my favorite thing. Personally, one of the best feelings is when I throw a good shot and everything feels right. The ball comes off my hand nicely and my timing was good! I absolutely love competing too. It’s one of my favorite things to do!
What are some of your most memorable moments as a bowler?
Something memorable to me is when I placed second in my high school State tournament my sophomore year of high school. I shot one of my highest series ever that day. I also really enjoy doing the Junior Gold Championships over the summer. It’s such a unique experience, and it’s really fun.
What made you choose to continue your bowling career at Youngstown State?
I knew I wanted to bowl at a Division I school, and YSU was one of the first schools I looked at. During my visit I instantly clicked with the team and Coach Doug. Plus, they have the kind of academic major that I was looking for too.
What goals will you have as a collegiate bowler?
My biggest goals while looking at schools were being able to travel and bowl at tournaments. Now that I’m able to do that, I really want to work on improving my skills and becoming a better player mentally and physically.
What are you planning on majoring in, and why?
I am majoring in English because I want to become an editor! I was the editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper and I loved it. I want to work with books or magazines and the overall process of completing them.
