The Youngstown State bowling program has inked a partnership with MOTIV Bowling to access the company’s bowling balls, bags and accessories, YSU head coach Doug Kuberski announced.
"We are extremely honored to join the MOTIV family,” Kuberski said. “MOTIV is investing in the future of our sport at the youth, collegiate, amateur, and professional ranks through a number of exciting avenues, and they are very forward-thinking with their research and development. The versatile catalog of equipment will empower us in many ways as we navigate the challenges of an NCAA season. We are grateful for the opportunity and can't wait to take the lanes representing MOTIV."
Headquartered in Muskegon, Mich., with equipment made in the USA, MOTIV® offers a comprehensive line of ball options, and it features NeoMark™, a revolutionary concept for bowling ball graphics. The technology allows the company to integrate multi-color graphics with the bowling ball cover stock, eliminating the need for engraving. The process provides the advantage of having the ball maintain consistent reaction down the lane even as the track area passes over them. The company also created the Microcell Polymer cover category to create balls that shape like urethane and have backend continuation like reactive resin.
Youngstown State registered its best season as a collegiate program in 2019-20, finishing with a 10th-place ranking in the NCAA RPI and the National Tenpin Coaches Association Top 25 Poll. The Penguins won 81 matches, including 14 against teams ranked in the top 10, and it was in line to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament before COVID-19 ended the season. Kuberski was named the NTCA Division I Coach of the Year and the Southland Bowling League Coach of the Year in leading the Penguins' climb toward becoming one of the nation's elite programs.
