Incoming freshman Aryn Lohrey (Mentor, Ohio) gives YSUsports.com an update as she prepares to begin her collegiate career at Youngstown State.
When did you start playing lacrosse and why?
It was my freshman year in High School. I wanted to play another sport with friends.
What made you choose YSU?
I had interest in a lot of their majors and also the upcoming lacrosse program.
Have you reached out to any of your new teammates, or did you previously know anyone on the team?
I talked to my roommate along with other girls on the team that I met during our team tailgate last November.
How anxious are you to get to campus and start your college career?
I'm excited to get to campus and reconnect with my team.
What was the lacrosse highlight of your high school/club career?
The highlight of my club career was getting to play and score with my YSU coaches watching in Florida at the President's Cup.
Do you have any pets and what are their names?
I have two standard poodles: Cosmo and Leo.
What did you miss the most from your last few months of high school being cancelled?
I missed the lacrosse season and my goal was to break the school record for goals.
What kind of activities are you doing to stay in shape?
I am running and going to the field to stay in shape.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of playing lacrosse?
I like hang out with my friends while boating, jet skiing and tubing.
If you weren't a lacrosse player, what sport would you like to do?
I would play soccer if I wasn't playing lacrosse.
Any interesting story about yourself you would like to share?
The first time I picked up a lacrosse stick was the night before tryouts my freshman year.
Who or what has been the biggest influence or inspiration during your athletic career?
My travel team coach for Burning River, Coach Todd. He believed in me and always gave me hope and encouragement telling me: "Aryn, you can do this!!!
