The Youngstown State men's cross country and track & field program has added transfer Chase Easterling, Head Coach Brian Gorby announced on Thursday.
Easterling spent last season running cross country and track at Akron University but will enroll at YSU in the 2020 fall semester and have three years of eligibility beginning with the 2020 cross country season.
Last season at Akron, Easterling posted a season-best 10th-place finish at the Tommy Evans Invitational after crossing the line in 20:03.4 to help Akron win the team title. Eastering also recorded a career-best 8K time of 26:29.7 to place 38th at the All-Ohio Championships, which helped the Zips to another team title. At the Mid-American Conference Championships, Easterling placed 35th with a time of 26.33.1. For his efforts, Easterling was voted by the Ohio cross country college coaches as the 2019 Ohio XC Freshman of the Year.
On the track, Easterling competed in five meets while registering a season- and career-best time of 8:53.07 in the 3,000 meters at the Akron-Kent State Dual. He recorded season-best times of 4:20.91 and 15:06.29, respectively, in the mile and 5,000 meters at the Doug Raymond Invitational and Akron Invitational. Easterling also crossed the finish line in third in the 3,000m at the Akron-Central Michigan Dual with a time of 9:00.28.
