Penguins Prepped to Compete in HL Cross Country Championships

The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the 2020-21 Horizon League Cross Country Championships, Thursday, in Carmel, Indiana.

The men's program seeks to capture its first league championship since 2018 and third in the last five seasons, while the women look to win their first title since 2014. 

The meet is hosted by IUPUI and will take place on the Northview Church Cross Country Course. The women's 6,000m race is scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m., with the men's 8,000m race to follow at 3:15 p.m.

Women: Morgan Cole, Lauren Dolak, Natalie Fleming, Julia Magliocca, Ashleigh Rowley, Maggie Sebest, Mackenzie Scott

Last Time Out

In its first outing since November 2019, the cross country program traveled to Florida State University to compete in the FSU Winter XC Classic Feb. 5, tallying two third-place team finishes on the day.

The men's squad, led by the blazing times of sophomore Chase Easterling (25:06.1) and freshman Hunter Christopher (25:09.2), tallied a team score of 60 points in the 8000m race. Easterling (fifth) and Christopher (seventh) posted top-10 times in the race.

On the women's side, sophomore Morgan Cole clocked a 21:54.6, earning her 11th-place and helping boost YSU to a 107-point team score.
